Ride for the Kids 2025

My Activity Tracking

kms

My target 51 kms

I’m riding this October to fund critical therapy, vital equipment, connection and moments of joy for over 1,600 Brainwave children living with brain disorders across Australia.

On average, 10 children a day in Australia are diagnosed with a brain illness or injury - life-changing conditions like epilepsy, stroke, cerebral palsy, brain injuries and rare neurological disorders. That’s more than 3,000 families, every year, suddenly navigating fear, uncertainty, and overwhelming challenges. Brainwave Australia is the only national charity dedicated to walking alongside these families.

My own family has been affected by brain injury and this October, I’m riding to raise funds for critical therapy, vital equipment, hospital support, and moments of joy for over 1,600 children supported by Brainwave. From hospital packs and mobility aids to family camps and connection-focused support, Brainwave help families feel less alone and more equipped to face what lies ahead.

Please support my ride to help provide support to these families and to provide essential equipment, access to programs, therapy and hope.

Anyone can make a difference. Wherever you are, whoever you are;  you can join me in helping these families who are going through these challenges. You can take action and be a part of this wonderful cause. Anyone can bring hope.

I'm excited to be doing this and I hope my riding can make a difference to these kids.

My Updates

We made it!

Thursday 6th Nov
A huge well done and thank you to both all my generous donors, but also my many many fellow Ride for the Kids participants who I’m sure, did the best they could and made a great difference. Everyone’s contributions have been so helpful, and a big shout out to my family who have helped me get the kms up. Following a tiring 20km ride I completed my kilometre goal, and it was a great feeling to have done what I wanted to achieve this month. So thank you to everyone involved, to whom I will always be grateful. I sincerely hope I have made the lives of kids living with brain illness and injuries, and their families, even the smallest bit better. I know it all counts, and I just hope that someway I have helped someone out there; and made them feel better. I hope I have changed someone’s life in even the tiniest way.
The tiniest glimmer of hope. Because hope is very powerful.

Another 10 down!

Thursday 23rd Oct
Finally I am half way to my kilometre goal! And thanks to all my wonderful sponsors, I have over double my fundraising goal! This has gone so much better than I expected, thank you so much; and I reckon I’m within sight of the finish line. I rode today simply along a park path, but the headwind made for some difficulty and effort. I was fuelled  on by thinking of how I was doing this for kids my age who could not do it themselves, and I wanted to push harder. I encourage everyone else participating in this really good cause to keep going, because I have no doubt it means probably more than we even know. It was fun to wear my gear, to keep supporting the people I chose to participate in this for, and to pour my water over my head for the first time after seeing riders do it all the time in the Tour.

I’ve logged my first ride!

Beautiful view

I’ve logged my first ride!

Friday 17th Oct
While it may have taken a while, I have logged my first ride. 10.4kms along local roads with a view of the mountains! 10.4kms might not seem much, but the distance was enough to make a beginner cyclist like me puffed! I did it with relative ease though (except scraping my leg on my pedal; typical beginner cyclist mistake with changing gears) and enjoyed the scenery consisting of native bush, paddocks and livestock  A spattering of rain and a rather loud roll of thunder above my head kept things interesting and I had to sit it out in the car for a minute to wait for the first (albeit small) summer storm to pass a little. With the help of my new Ride for the Kids gear I’m feeling ready to take on the rest of my kilometres. It’s not too late to donate, keep them coming because the support is very encouraging and after all, we are riding for the kids!

Delays

Wednesday 8th Oct
Hi everyone! I just wanted to jump on and say don’t fret - you have not donated for nothing - I know I haven’t clocked any kilometres yet but it has been insanely hectic recently and I haven’t been able to afford any time to hop on my bike! I’ve also had a minor foot injury so that has not helped. You can be sure, though, that my goal will be reached; I’m utterly determined. Please keep supporting me; I will not let anyone down!

The first steps

Wednesday 1st Oct
I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has generously donated so far; it's only day 1 and thanks to you I'm already off and racing (or pedaling, I should say...) We have already raised enough money to fund a brainwave family for a whole month! Let's keep it up.
As for me, I am probably the furthest anyone could be from a pro cyclist, in every respect. But I've been inspired, and am looking forward to getting on my bike this October. I'm aiming to pick a different, increasingly difficult course to ride each week to reach my goal, probably amongst rides around home. I want to push myself, I want to improve. But more than that, I simply want to fill the lives of these kids and their families with as much joy, hope, and help that I possibly can. So join the ride!
